Overview
WVNOW (West Virginia National Organization for Women) is a statewide nonprofit focused on education and advocacy. The goal was to redesign their digital platform to clearly communicate complex information to multiple audiences while supporting organizational growth.
My Role
Product design and development lead, responsible for UX, UI, information architecture, accessibility considerations, and front end implementation.
Outcome
The redesigned platform improved clarity and usability while providing a flexible foundation for ongoing advocacy and educational efforts.
The Challenge
The organization needed to serve diverse audiences with different information needs while maintaining clarity, trust, and credibility. Existing content was difficult to navigate and hard to scale.
Approach
Worked closely with stakeholders to define priorities and restructure content. Designed user flows and navigation systems that balanced depth with discoverability. Iterated on layouts and structure to support clarity across content types.
Design Solution
Delivered a scalable platform with clear hierarchy and consistent patterns, making it easier for users to find information and for the organization to manage content over time.
Homepage
It needed to quickly communicate who they are and guide users to key actions. The main call-to-action directs visitors to “View the Core Issues,” while secondary CTAs provide easy access to becoming a member, voter resources, and finding a local chapter.

Get Involved Page
It was designed to clearly outline the different types of memberships available with a strong visual hierarchy. The page gives users the options to become a new member, renew their membership, or request a student membership. Each membership type is presented in an easy-to-digest format, with distinct sections and calls-to-action, making it simple for visitors to find the option that suits their needs.

Core Issues Page
WVNOW focuses on advancing education and advocacy around issues that impact communities across West Virginia. Their core issue areas reflect the policies, systems, and lived experiences that shape opportunity and access throughout the state.
This page provides an overview of the issues WVNOW works on, why they matter, and how they connect. Each issue area represents ongoing work that evolves as policies change and community needs shift.

Contact Page
Intentionally kept the Contact experience simple and focused, reducing friction for users while avoiding unnecessary form complexity or over-collection of information.

Become a Member Page
The “Become a Member” form got a major makeover to simplify the process. Instead of creating four separate forms for different membership types, I implemented a single form with conditional fields. The first question asks users what they’re looking to do—whether it’s joining for the first time, joining as a student, renewing as a student, or requesting a scholarship. Based on their response, the form dynamically adjusts to request only the relevant information. This streamlined approach improved the user experience and made the process more efficient for WVNOW.

“Working with Sam at Design It Please was a game-changer for WVNOW. She created a website that beautifully reflects our mission and makes it easier for our community to engage with our work.”
